I agree with most comments so here is my solution. I have two blogs, one on wordpress and one on blogger - http://johncwelsh@blogspot.com. I only started five days ago so it makes it easy. I just cut and paste from one into another. Wordpress impresses because of the tags, blogger because it seems more up to date about links ie to Twitter. I am going to test it and let you know what happens!

Yes, I am having same dilemma - blogger or wordpress. Here is my solution - and I only started blogging five days OK so somewhat easier - I have two! One with wordpress, enclosed, and one with blogger at http://johncwelsh@blogspot.com. I am going to compare and contrast. Of course wordpress' tags are better and more professional but blogger has some really cool links to Twitter and google functionality. I'll let you know what I decide!

Wordpress over Blogger any day for exactly what you mentioned. RSS, tagging, categories and generally the better feel. But I will agree with darran, self-hosting on Wordpress is the bomb! I was with wordpress.com for about 4 months and switched to self-hosting with Wordpress. SO much better.

I once used Blogger. Then I switched to the dark side of Wordpress. I was a loyal Wordpress user, but the themes left me empty. As a designer, I wanted to put my personal feel into my blogs.

The categories and stuff were fine, but it's seriously too small to consider.

Not forgetting, I got MASSIVE exposure on Wordpress, which was good and everything, but I realise that the WHOLE WORLD could see me. And I wanted some privacy, and Wordpress never guaranteed me that.

I like the traffic. Average was 300 - 500. My peak was 1,200~ views on one day. It was TMTH (too much to handle), the consequences it had on my psychological health. So I went back to Blogger and led a normal life. :)

Too much to explain to be honest. :P

Very interesting post, but I want to point out that in blogger, multiple line breaks can be successfully published & displayed by pressing "enter" several times.

It'd be best if you can summarise all the pros 7 cons into a single table for viewing convenience. =)

I think the interface is really important. I find WordPress have a better interface. Better interface helps blogger manage their blogs better. So WordPress +1.

Don't let your blog's traffic be the reason you blog.

Wordpress.com blogs does have very few themes, but if you pay everything is customizable. If you do not want to have any restrictions, you should get a webhost and then use wordpress.org instead like I have.

Blogger has category function too. The best is geeklog. I cannot make blogspot to operate like wordpress, and i need about 5 - 10 plugins to make wordpress operate like geeklog.

of course word press is better, it's fully customizable and it's open source. But for those who doesn't host a website, they will use blogger, since blogger will do the work if all you wanted was blogging personal stuff.

I like the categories function in wordpress too, but I got too lazy to re-learn its blogging style so I stuck to blogspot. :)

i am considering moving my blog to wordpress but am having second thought because almost everything i use is owned by google therefore it is much easier to customize with blogger. i heard some features are not possible for wordpress or are harder to customize. oh, how do you transfer your old posts to a new blog? i havent figured that part out. you could kindly email me at kullovesyou@gmail.com. thank you very much :)

Yeah, I felt so too. The post I migrated from my previous blog are all in light color font due to the dark color background, as a result, to make my past entries readable, I choose a skin with dark background - after searching for quite long, this should be the nicest one I guess x)
The skins are truly super limited (:

wordpress is WAY better. i just feel that blogger is too overrun by erm, teens who post endless pictures of themselves in endless poses. it just kills the writing spirit for me. wordpress makes me feel professional, though.
pity that the selection of skins here is pretty limited.
